THE MAY 1, 2010 WALK ROUTE 50 WAS A SUCCESS AND OVER $20,000 WAS RAISED :)
THANKS! to everyone who came out and walked, and to all the volunteers and donors
who helped make this event a success.

I serve as a board member for Haldimand & Norfolk Women's Services, and am actively involved in a number of its projects. Of particular interest to me is Women's Services involvement with Roots of Empathy, an internationally recognized program developed by Mary Gordon that strives to build caring, peaceful, and civil societies through the development of empathy in children.  www.rootsofempathy.org

Saturday, April 4, 2009, on my 50th birthday, I hosted the first Route 50 Walk to Grow a Caring Community at the Todd Eaton Memorial Track at Port Dover Composite School and our 5 km. walk ended at the beach.  Callahan’s Beach House provided a wonderful luncheon to the walkers, and entertainment was provided by Gerry Hamill of CD98.9.  With the help and generosity of caring people and businesses in our community and beyond, we raised over $20,000 for the Roots of Empathy program at Haldimand and Norfolk Women’s Services.   A special thank you to Jane Scheel who helped turn my dream of a Peace Walk into a reality.    (What the 50 behind Route 50 stands for - 50 champions 50 and over walking 5.0 km for $50,000 - although the 50 people are the fundraising force behind the walk, anyone can join in.  There were about 100 people who walked with me on April the 4th, from mom's and dad's with their children to grandparents in their 70's and 80's.

On May 1, 2010 the 'torch' was passed to MPP Dave Levac of Brantford who started off the 2010 Route 50 Walk at Assumption College in Brantford.   I was excited to participate in the walk this year and feel as passionately for this program at 51 as I did last year at 50!  Together we continue to grow a caring community.  Over $40,000 has been raised to date.  Let's keep it growing!  Find out how you can participate in the 2011 Walk.  Please email me at

Funds raised will support new instructor training and program growth.
